Maria de Sousa Award Ceremony: 2nd edition – 2022

 

The winners of Maria de Sousa Award: 2nd edition - 2022 will be announced in the Award ceremony that will take place on November 14, 2022, in Lisbon, and will be held in a hybrid format, so everyone can watch online. The event will be chaired by the Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education.

The Portuguese Medical Association and the BIAL Foundation are promoting the second edition of the Maria de Sousa Award, launched in 2020 to honour the memory of the physician and great researcher Maria de Sousa, and to support young Portuguese scientific researchers, aged 35 or under with scientific projects in the area of Health Sciences.

The neuroscientist Rui Costa is the President of the Jury, which includes also researchers who were very close to Maria de Sousa: Maria do Carmo Fonseca, president of the Institute of Molecular Medicine (iMM) of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Lisbon, Graça Porto, group leader for research on the biology of iron at the Institute for Research and Innovation in Health Sciences (i3S) of the University of Porto, Miguel Castelo-Branco, director of the Center for Biomedical Imaging and Translational Research (CIBIT) at the University of Coimbra, and Joana Palha, full professor at the School of Medicine of the University of Minho.
