To honour the memory of the renowned physician, researcher, and professor who founded the Abel Salazar School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS) and was connected to the Bial Foundation for over 20 years, the family of Professor Nuno Grande, the ICBAS, and the Bial Foundation created the Nuno Grande Doctoral Scholarship in 2022.

The Nuno Grande Doctoral Scholarship, worth 25 thousand Euro, was established to support research work in the areas of Fundamental Health Sciences, aiming to promote the acquisition of distinctive academic skills for the teaching of Medicine by physicians who, while collaborating in teaching, are or intend to pursue their studies within the Doctoral Programme in Medical Sciences offered at ICBAS.

Starting from the 2025 edition, the Nuno Grande Doctoral Scholarships will be managed by the Bial Foundation, will have national scope, and will award, in each edition, three scholarships with a global amount of 75 thousand Euro. Eligible candidates include Portuguese or foreign citizens, holders of a degree or master’s in Medicine, who are involved in medical teaching at any Portuguese medical school and are enrolled in a doctoral programme in the area of Fundamental Health Sciences at a Portuguese university.
