He is a Distinguished Professor of Psychology at Binghamton University, State University of New York (SUNY), where he served as Director of the Psychological Clinic and the Laboratory of Consciousness, Cognition, and Psychopathology. Recognized as a leading expert in the field of hypnosis, he published extensively on psychotherapy, hypnosis, science versus pseudoscience, psychopathology, and memory, and has authored or edited 22 books.
He received his BA in Psychology from the University of Michigan (USA), and his PhD in Clinical Psychology from Indiana University (USA).
He was the founding Editor of Psychology of Consciousness: Theory, Research, and Practice (APA), serving as its Editor from 2013 to 2020. His numerous awards include a “Lifetime Achievement Award” from Indiana University, and the “Arthur Shapiro Award” for the “Best Book in Hypnosis, 2019”.
He passed away in March 2024 at the age of 78.
