James Houran, PhD

Editor-in-Chief Journal of Scientific Exploration

He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Scientific Exploration, the Director of Research at Integrated Knowledge Systems (USA), a Research Professor at the Instituto Politécnico de Gestão e Tecnologia (Portugal), and a Visiting Research Scholar at the Institute for the Study of Religious and Anomalous Experience. He has also authored or edited four books: “Hauntings and poltergeists: Multidisciplinary perspectives” (2001), “Celebrity worshippers: Inside the minds of stargazers” (2004), “From shaman to scientist: Essays on humanity's search for spirits” (2004), and “Ghosted! Exploring the haunting reality of paranormal encounters” (2022). His primary research interests include transliminality, the phenomenology of ghosts, haunts, and poltergeists, as well as psychometrics and the psychology of paranormal belief and experiences.

He holds a BA in Psychology from Benedictine University (USA), an MA in Clinical Psychology from the University of Illinois at Springfield (USA), and a PhD in Medicine with a focus on Psychology from the University of Adelaide (Australia).
