He is Chief Scientist at the Institute of Noetic Sciences - IONS, in California (USA), and an Associated Distinguished Professor of Integral and Transpersonal Psychology at the California Institute of Integral Studies. He is also the Chairman and Co-founder of the genetic neuroengineering company Cognigenics. He has authored four best-selling books, which have been translated into 15 languages: “The conscious universe” (1997), “Entangled minds” (2006), “Supernormal” (2013), and “Real magic” (2018). His research, conducted independently and in collaboration with other scientists, has explored topics such as mind-matter interaction, distant healing, telepathy, presentiment, and mediumship.
He earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst (USA), an MSc in Electrical Engineering, and a PhD in Psychology from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (USA). In 2022, he received an honorary doctorate from Swami Vivekananda University in Bangalore (India).
After graduation and before joining the IONS research staff in 2001, he worked in advanced telecommunications R&D at AT&T Bell Laboratories and GTE Laboratories. His career has included appointments at Princeton University, GTE Laboratories, the University of Edinburgh, the University of Nevada, SRI International, and Interval Research Corporation. He has served five times as President of the Parapsychological Association.
