Head of the "Anomalistic Psychology Research Unit"

He is a Professor Emeritus and the Head of the Anomalistic Psychology Research Unit in the Psychology Department at Goldsmiths, University of London (UK). He is also a member of the Forensic Psychology Unit at Goldsmiths and has served as an Expert Witness in numerous criminal trials. He is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society and the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, a Patron of the British Humanist Association, and a member of the Scientific and Professional Advisory Board of the British False Memory Society. He has regularly featured on science programs, documentaries, and discussion panels, sharing his skeptical insights on paranormal claims. His most recent book, “The science of weird shit: Why our minds conjure the paranormal” (2024), delves into these topics. An expert in anomalistic psychology, he focuses on non-paranormal explanations for seemingly paranormal experiences.

He completed his PhD in Psychology at the University of Leicester (UK).

From 2001 to 2010, he served as Editor-in-Chief of Skeptic magazine. From 2009 to 2016, he was a Columnist for The Guardian newspaper exploring skepticism and anomalistic psychology.
