Prémio BIAL de Medicina Clínica: applications until August 31

The 20th edition of the Prémio BIAL de Medicina Clínica, promoted by the BIAL Foundation, with the amount of €100,000, seeks to recognize an intellectual, original work on any freely chosen medical topic on clinical practice. Only work with results of high quality and relevance will be considered. The winning work will also be published as a book.

Works published in the form of journal articles, books or theses are not eligible. At least one of the authors must be a native physician of a Portuguese speaking country.

In addition to the awarded work, Honorable Mentions (maximum two) worth €10,000 each can be awarded.

The President of the Jury, Manuel Sobrinho Simões, reveals that “the Prémio BIAL de Medicina Clínica will distinguish the best research in clinical medicine with high applicability in the community. We hope to receive applications that put the most advanced clinical and scientific knowledge at the service of patients and society in general, with a significant impact on improving human health.”

Since its establishment, the Prémio BIAL has recognised 105 works by 302 authors, with more than 320,000 copies of 41 award-winning works having been published and distributed free of charge to health professionals.

In total, the Prémio BIAL has considered 686 entries from 1742 researchers, physicians and scientists from 20 countries.

In addition to Manuel Sobrinho Simões, the Jury includes João Bessa (School of Medicine - U. Minho), Jaime Branco (Faculty of Medical Sciences | Nova Medical School | U. Nova de Lisboa), Filipe Caseiro Alves (Faculty of Medicine - U. Coimbra), Miguel Castelo-Branco (Faculty of Health Sciences - U. Beira Interior), Altamiro da Costa Pereira (Faculty of Medicine - U. Porto), Henrique Cyrne Carvalho (Abel Salazar School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, U. Porto), Helena Leitão (Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences - U. Algarve), José Melo Cristino (Faculty of Medicine - U. Lisboa).
